Transparency and Accountability for Oxford
I believe that I can raise the bar.
Since moving to Oxford I have become increasingly interested in the workings of the town in an effort to become more engaged with my community. The more that I learn the more that I want to know. Since attending the annual town meetings and special town meetings each year I have watched nearly all of the open meetings the town posts and been reading the minutes from those that are not recorded. I have also been increasingly attending Selectmen meetings in person and plan to attend more of the other meetings in person as well.
In an ideal world, I would be running for the Board of Selectmen after having volunteered on other boards and committees first. Unfortunately, like many residents my volunteer application was not approved. It was made clear to me that I would need to take my volunteer application to the voters to become more involved in the town. I want to use the platform as a Selectman to reach more residents of the town and engage them as well.
Challenges before the town should be faced with urgency. I am not content to sit on the sidelines complaining and hoping another person will turn up to solve them. I bring a fresh set of ideas and enthusiasm that I am ready to take to the voters. I look forward to meeting each of you, even those of you who disagree with me, because I need as much input as possible to be a good Selectman. I believe that democracy is about winning people over.
